24th “Raid Amazones” Kicks off Today in Siem Reap

Siem Reap, March 12, 2024: Siem Reap, the Cambodian province renowned for its majestic Angkor temples, sets the stage for the 24th edition of the "Raid Amazones" adventure race, commencing today with the participation of around 300 adventurous women from across the globe.

Competing in teams of two or three, the participants, hailing from countries such as France, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Australia, and North America, will embark on a thrilling six-day journey through Cambodia's stunning landscapes. The event's itinerary, outlined on the "Raid Amazones" website, includes mountain biking spanning 30 to 50 km, trail running covering 10 to 20 km, and canoeing stretches ranging from 12 to 16 km on seas or lakes and up to 20 km along river currents. Additionally, contestants will demonstrate their archery skills, aiming at an 80 cm target from a distance of 10 meters.

Beyond the exhilarating morning challenges, the afternoons are dedicated to cultural immersion, enabling participants to interact with local communities and immerse themselves in Cambodian hospitality.

Distinguished by its commitment to promoting female empowerment through sports, the "Raid Amazones" offers women from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to push their limits in exotic locations worldwide. Beyond the physical exertion and adventure, the event serves as a platform for showcasing participants' strength and resilience.

Established in 2001, well ahead of its time in championing women's empowerment in sports, the "Raid Amazones" has consistently emphasized the prowess and endurance of female athletes. This year marks Cambodia's fourth time hosting the event, following previous editions in 2014, 2017, and 2018, affirming the country's allure as a host for international sporting spectacles.

The "Raid Amazones" serves as an inspiration to women globally, illustrating that sports and adventure transcend gender boundaries and that every obstacle surmounted is a stride towards personal development and self-discovery.
